Stewardship

An Invitation to Estimate of Giving

When we follow the way of Jesus, we follow a path that leads to a generous way of life.  While some people join into Christian faith as fully-mature stewards, most of us follow a journey in which our generosity grows as we become ever more aware of God's grace and generosity--and the ways in which we can respond.

Matthew 9:35

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.

Matthew 10:8

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely have you received; freely give.

Stewardship ties two things together. Stewards recognize God's unmerited love for each and every person, and for all other created entities (animals, the natural world, cosmic existence). Stewards also recognize that God's unmerited love calls for love of neighbor. Stewardship of time, talent, money, and other resources are a practical way to express love for God and love for others.

As the gospel writers interpret Jesus' saying, when articulating what Christians often call the Great Commandment, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind', ...and... 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"  Your gifts enable us to bless others in a multitude of ways including through mission and outreach.

Moreover, the practice of stewardship can be a means of grace. One reason the synagogue and church worship every seven days is that we so easily forget the presence and love of God, and can so easily drift into attitudes, values, and behaviors that work against God's purposes of love for all. Worship reminds us of the promises of God to us and of our response to God.

Please complete an Estimate of Giving form whether you plan on using eGiving as your donation method or continuing to utilize your previous method and will make payments directly to the church.

We also have a Time and Talent card where you can indicate how you'd like to volunteer.

When we commit time, talent, money, and other resources to church or world, we also symbolize something that goes beyond the actual immediate action. We represent the commitment of our whole lives to the values and practices of God.
