The setting sun evokes a feeling of peace. As the camp song goes:
Day is done, gone the sun.
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.
The tricky part comes the next morning, when the troubles of the day show back up. Perhaps
we need to pay attention to the less dramatic reminders of God’s presence: the morning dew sparkling on a cobweb, the texture of the bark of a tree, the ever-changing colors and shapes of the clouds. If we intentionally pause during the day to look out the window or step outside, perhaps we can focus on one small natural wonder, the play of shadows on the grass or the buzz of a bee. Taking a deep breath and letting it go, we close our eyes and remember—— God is nigh.
Together, we can bring Christ's word and work to the world.
