This Sunday (June 1) is Confirmation Sunday. Over the past couple months, Trey and I have been meeting with six youth. On June 1, will receive them into membership in the church. The Deacons are planning a special coffee hour to celebrate their Confirmation. Please make a special effort to join us on Confirmation Sunday and to celebrate this special day.
As you know, Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have died in war. I appreciate the parades and traditions that take place on Memorial Day weekend. They are helpful reminders to reflect on the sacrifices people make to defend freedom and to stand up for life-affirming values. This year, I recalled the words that a member of First Parish once shared with me and suggested they might make a meaningful message in the Oasis.
These are words from the 2nd Inaugural Address of Abraham Lincoln. I offer them for your reflection:
With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphans – to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.
